Many persons are of the opinion that flash drives are better than DVDs because it is easier to transfer data from the hard disk to the flash drive as compared to the hard disk to the DVD. Well, there is no doubt that you cannot do use a simple copy and paste option to transfer data to your DVD.
If you opt for such an approach with the Windows operating system, it will activate its in built burner program and will burn the data on the DVD. Writing data onto a full DVD will take time. It certainly will not be as fast as writing data to a flash drive.
However, there is a huge difference between the two. In case of the flash drive, the data will stay there only until you press the delete button. On the other hand, the data that is burned on the DVD will stay there for eternity unless the medium happens to be a read and write disc.
This means that you get reliability that is second only to the hard disk in terms of security of data. It is but obvious that you will have to spend slightly extra time transferring the data to the DVD to ensure that it is completely safe.
Another point of criticism made against DVDs is that one has to use a separate program to burn data on to the disk. Well, copying data into a flash drive is just a matter of pressing the right keyboard shortcuts. However, the option of using third party programs is not such a complicated one. There are numerous free and good quality programs available in the market that help you prepare numerous DVDs without any difficulty. You can even go in for certain free programs that help you prepare movie DVDs. Investing money in such a program is an investment for the long term.
